Project Management: Mill to Rig Supervision

HTS provides complete supervision services to ensure tubulars move from mill to rig in serviceable condition.  Tubulars are monitored every step of the way, which ensures smooth operations.  Problems can be assessed and addressed immediately, avoiding expensive delays and costly repairs.  Supervision is especially important in the movement of CRA tubular products.

 

Premium Connection Inspection

HTS has trained and certified staff in field repair and running of premium connections.  Repair is accomplished by hand only; the use of power tools is strictly prohibited.  HTS utilizes a digital camera to document the stages of repair to our customers.  The 'tracking system' allows a methodical analysis and evaluation, leading to cost savings for our customers.  A positive approach by HTS to educate oil companies, rig crews, and rental companies has ensured the performance of the product and reduced repair costs to the end user.

 

Field Supervision & Inspection

HTS' highly trained Supervision Representatives have years of tubular running experience.  This ensures that any tubing or casing string run will operate smoothly, helping to reduce non-productive time and achieving a worry-free completion for the customer.  HTS Representatives are all well versed in the running and make-up of all Premium and API tubular connections.

HTS will routinely:

• Meet with your team and plan necessary work; 
• Arrange the tubular make-up equipment; 
• Supervise & assist in the preparation of pipe to be run; 
• Repair joints in the field that might otherwise be rejected; 
• Supervise and assist in the running / pulling of the string, making recommendations as required; and, 

Provide you with a written record of inspection results and work performed on the job.

Computer Torque Monitoring (Bonnyville)

HTS is proud to offer WinCatt software for its Computer Torque Monitoring services. 

WinCatt is a software tool that interacts with external control hardware to provide real-time monitoring and control of tubular connection power tong make-up.  It was developed by FARR Canada Limited and the Centre for Engineering Research Inc. (C-FER) of FARR's exclusive distribution.  The graphical user interface and logical software structure combined with powerful control, data acquisition and presentation capabilities enable the user to easily specify make-up parameters, control the make-up process, and evaluate quality.  WinCatt was developed with an emphasis on the user's needs for reliability, accuracy, and ease of use.  Key features include:

• Monitors torque, turns and rotational speed during make-up;
• Controls speed during make-up (optional);
• Controls based on either final torque or final turns;
• Includes calibration management system;
• Includes automatic 'Start Recording' & 'Dump Valve' release;

Conventional and Integral Power Tongs (Bonnyville)

HTS provides the latest power tong equipment and sizes of tubing and/or casting to suit the requirements of the operator.  Conventional power tongs range in sizes from 2 3/8” up to 20” complete with handling equipment for all sizes.  Our Integral power tongs range from 2 3/8” to 13 3/8”, complete with wrap-around dies to eliminate scaring of the tubular. All equipment is maintained in a safe and operational condition.

 

Bucking Services

Complete bucking services are available with three mobile bucking units. Two of our units range from 2 1/8” to 5 ½” and the larger unit from 5 ½” to 14”.  We have the ability to switch over all three units from buck-on to buck-off and visa versa in less than one minute on site.  We are also able to switch sizes on site as efficiently.  Each unit is mobile and is available for in-town and out-of-town services.

Our bucking services include both premium and API connections. The procedures for the two connections are similar with a few exceptions.  All connections involve the buck-off of couplings, inspection and cleaning of the pin end, re-application of thread compound, buck-on the couplings, drift and insert thread protectors.  The differences lie in how the coupling is gauged.  With the premium connection, we use computer torque monitoring.  WinCatt software enables us to monitor torque, turns and rotational speed during make up.  This also enables us to determine whether or not the connection has reached the manufacturers specifications, which we can print on location if required.  Position is also monitored using a standard equation.  If any connection does not reach specification, we will break it out, clean and re-inspect it, apply thread compound and try again.

We also have the capacity to buck-on float equipment ranging from 5 ½” to 14” using the larger unit.  We break out the coupling end, clean and inspect it, apply thread lock and buck-on using computer torque monitoring.  The opposite end is uncapped, cleaned, inspected, thread lock is applied and the float shoe or collar is manually started on the pin.  We also use computer torque monitoring for these connections to ensure they reach manufacturer specifications.

Our large bucking unit is capable of reaching almost any height that the racks require.

Power Thread Washers & Casing Cleaning

HTS provides power thread washers from 2 3/8” to 9 5/8” pipe sizes. Power thread washers enable our Thread Supervision Technicians to thoroughly clean and inspect threaded connections in the field. Thread cleaning is required by all premium connection manufacturers and is recommended for all connections to ensure they are free of contaminants to allow for trouble-free make up. Damaged connections can be easily identified for field repair and/or set aside for re-cuts.

HTS also provides casing cleaning crews for heavy oil projects in the Bonnyville/Cold Lake area.
